Nên nhớ rang ở nhiệt độ nhỏ và lâu sẽ giữ được hàm lượng dầu hữu ích có trong hạt. Có thể ăn trực tiếp, dùng hạt làm súp, nộm sa lát, bổ sung thêm gia vị hành tỏi, dầu ô liu, chanh… cho dậy mùi. Hạt bí ngô không phải là thực phẩm gây dị ứng và không có chứa các chất gây bệnh như goitrogen, uxalates hoặc purine.
